6 Things To Do In South Cebu

Cebu – this place has always amazed me. There are a lot of things to do and sights to see when you’re in Cebu. Regardless if you’re a city girl, love to go on hikes or a beach bum, there are activities that will fit your personality. As I’ve shared with you a few months back, me and my college friends went there. During our trip, we visited the South of Cebu. Here were some of the things we did:

1. Visit Simala Shrine

On the first day of our trip, we visited Simala Shrine in the town of Sibonga. It’s a monastery where monks live. A lot of people visit this place to offer prayers, ask for guidance or healing from illnesses. If you do visit this place, make sure that you are in proper attire – no crop tops and short skirts. If you haven’t bought one on your trip, there are long skirts or cloaks that you can rent for a small fee.

2. Eat Lechon at Carcar

Lechon in Carcar!

Before you head further South, drop by Carcar for the famous lechon Cebu. There are a lot of lechon vendors in this area. You don’t have to purchase a whole lechon as most of them sell by kilo. To be honest though, the lechon was a little too salty for my taste. I guess I have to try it again when it’s freshly roasted. Another reason to go back to Cebu!

3 Try Canyoneering in Badian

If you’re looking for a thrilling adventure, canyoneering in Badian is a must! Hike, climb and jump your way through different obstacles. Yes, you read that right. You’ll have to jump cliffs of about 30 feet high! Don’t worry that much. There are Cebu tour packages that offer canyoneering adventure. If you take advantage of these tours, you’ll be accompanied by a guide all throughout canyoneering.

4. Be Mesmerized by the Beauty of Kawasan Falls

The finish line of your canyoneering adventure will be Kawasan Falls. Although if you took the Alegria route (like what we did), you won’t end up there. There was an entrance fee of about 45 pesos at the time of our visit. The falls is so beautiful but, if you want to take the best photos, I suggest you go there early as it can get crowded very quickly.

5. Swim with Whale Sharks in Oslob

One of the things that you shouldn’t miss is a Cebu whale shark watching tour. Oslob is home to these beautiful sea giants we usually call as ‘butanding’. We went there on the 3rd day of our Cebu trip. When you arrive, you have to register and listen to the safety briefing. Listen as they’ll discuss the do’s and don’ts. Swimming with whale sharks is really fun. It can be a struggle to get a nice photo though.

6. Go To Sumilon Island

Before heading back to the city, don’t miss visiting Sumilon Island. You can definitely visit Sumilon Island when you’re done with whale shark watching as it is just located nearby. You’ll see the clearest of waters here. They also have a sandbar where you can take pictures or soak under the sun.

That’s it! Those are the things you can do in South Cebu. If you’re traveling there soon, make sure to include those places in your list. I’ll be back again someday to visit other parts of Cebu as well.
