The Archery Academy Experience

“Never be afraid to try something new, because life gets boring when you stay within the limits of what you already know.”

The first time I tried Archery was around 10+ years ago during my Year 6 primary school Camp! I don’t remember much about the techniques involved but I remember it was a lot of fun! So when I found out that there was an archery place in Manila I just had to book a class! Luckily, The Archery Academy is partnered with FitAccessPH and I was able to book my class through them. Myself and my two friends, Hazel and Rocell, were excited the whole week for this, click on to read more about our Archery Academy Experience!

The Place

The Archery Academy is located on the 5th Floor of the Intrawest Center, #33 Annapolis St. Brgy. Greenhills, Brgy. San Juan, Metro Manila. I forgot to take a photo of the building itself but it’s a sort of green-ish color with stairs leading up. It’s a pretty steep climb but just keep walking up the stairs, turn left and you’ll see the signs in the photo above.

The place is cute, don’t you think? Hehe. I love the paintings/murals on the walls. Really makes the place look fun and exciting! It isn’t  air-conditioned but it’s pretty well ventilated and there are fans too!

The Experience

Myself and my two friends, Hazel and Rocell, booked a 7 to 8 pm class for Friday 26th August 2016; it was pretty gloomy rainy weather that day but we were still excited! We were meant to arrive earlier but we got lost on the way. Ended up going into another building, asked the Guard where it was located and he just looked at us funny and said there was no 5th floor in that building. Oops! We found it eventually hehe, thank you Google Maps! 😛

Before the class started we were ask to read and sign the waiver. Next, the head coach, Gio walked us through the basics. How to stand, how to properly hold the bow, how to put the arrows on the bows, what to do, what not to do, etc. etc. etc. This will take around 15 minutes.

These are the targets you can choose from! I chose No. 5 <3

These are the bows that we used. They were a lot lighter than I originally imagined. Thank goodness!

It’s hard at first! My first few arrows were waaaaaaay off the targets. But as with all sports; practice, practice, practice!

I couldn’t get it smack down on the bulls-eye but I did pop the balloon so yayyyyy! Coach Gio, Japhet and Che are there to guide you as well so don’t worry about not getting it right the first time. They were a big help! 😀

Hazel (@hazzzieee) and Rocell (@rgtrrz) were really good! They got a few arrows in the bulls-eye, new sport guys? Hahaha!

After an hour of archery we were pretty beat. We didn’t realized it would be so tiring, it’s a lot of fun though!!! I highly recommend you give it a go! Bring your friends! Bring your families! You’ll have a great time! I guarantee 😀

Notes

  • Wear covered shoes and comfortable clothes
  • Stretch afterwards (We didn’t do this and our left arms were aching the next day, oops! Hehe!)
  • Come 15 minutes before your class
  • Be excited and have fun!!!

  1. Wow, this is great. I’ve been to a gun-shooting range before, but this is new to me. You look like pros in the photos. This looks like a fun activity for competitive spirits (including myself). Can’t wait to read more of your posts.

  2. Archery looks fun to me especially just by looking at those pictures. I should try that out too since I’m an “archer” graduate lol. So it’s Php 550 per person/hr for the archery session or the other sports too? Does it include all the gears and the arrows already? What if we brought our own gears too? Sorry, just got really curious.

    1. Hi there! It’s Php 550 for a one hour session which includes all the equipment and unlimited arrows. If you have your own equipment it’s cheaper too but I can’t remember how much hehe. I’ll find out for you! You can also book through Fit Access PH, you might want to give it a try! It’s a lot cheaper and you can try other sports too! Feel free to PM me about it if you’re interested 😀

  3. Archery looks cool and the place is yes, cute! I’ve always wanted to try archery when I was a kid but my mom told me it’s a boy thing, so I have almost forgotten about it. Until I have watched Hunger Games! That childish dream was awaken! I would love to try it and look cool with those arrows, so powerful! Hahaha

  4. Oh I love archery a lot! Is learnt it as a teenager. It indeed is curious, how much of sync is needed between our mind and body, to actually score a target! It’s great that you have it a shot 🙂

  5. This made me remember my uncle who practices archery and said coaches a team in Legazpi. I remember so may characters related to this. From Katniss to Susan to Oliver Queen and Speedy, there are just so plenty. I guess Archery is really a hard sport since you need to be accurate and precise when you aim plus the strength you need to exert when you shoot it. I wish I could try this someday. 🙂

      1. I think if I would be able to try this, I won’t get it in the first hour of trial. Hahaha! Even with darts, I suck. What more to archery. =)) I really wish they would still have another promo so I could go there at once and be like Katniss or just feel it. 😂

  6. it’s only once that I tried archery.. You really need focus on every shot.. It might hurt you or anyone near you if you don’t get it right… it’s good to have academies like these sports…

  7. I got a free pass to this one too but I unfortunately wasn’t available at the time! Would’ve been fun to make my Katniss dreams come true. Not to mention, Kagome of my anime childhood. The pretty ladies are always the ones with bows and arrows 🙂

  8. Archery is one of the many “i want to try that”things. There is something so appealing about it, perhaps the fact that it is considered a sports but without the usual ball to get it started. Or I might have been charmed by Katniss or Legolas. Hihi

  9. Personally I would love to pick this up as a sport. I’m up for anything new even if it can be too new or scary, Coz at the end the result is always better than the fear.

  10. Archery is really becoming a big thing.I can recall before that I had to wait for three months to master the proper form before we were allowed to shoot. I was also required to do push ups. What’s cool now is that people can pick archery up as a hobby and in this academy is that the target paper has a design which makes shooting interesting.

  11. You and your friends look like you really enjoyed doing the Archery class for the first time. I would also want to try Archery with my husband. I know it pretty well that he’ll enjoy this activity a lot more than me. He likes it when he can feel like he’s an action star. Hahaha! With a bow and an arrow, he’ll definitely rock it lol.

  12. I heard of this place before and I really want to go! Archery places are trending now and I want to experience why. I hope it’s not to hard because you need to be firm and still according to some. I’m really glad you enjoyed your experience. 😊

  13. Modern day meridas would love to come here! I wonder if they also have classes for kids aged 5 and above? How was the whole one hour experience? did you have sore ‘kasu-kasuan’ after the session? Also, that target that you chose is too cute! Deym! 😀

  14. This reminds me of how bad I do in archery haha! but still, archery is one of those things I want to be good at the in the future and I believe it’s never too late for me to try this out:)) but right now need to do some schedule fixing to include this up to my day-to-day itinerary:) thanks for sharing about this!

  15. Wow, my cousin loves archery so much. In fact, he is really fascinated to give at try of the real one. It’s just that, such program isn’t available in here. Thus, if we want to give it a try, we would buy the equipment. I am sure that this academy would really give those who love the sports the chance to make their dreams come true. I’ll surely tell my cousin about this.

  16. That’s an awesome way of spending an afternoon. I’ve always thought that archery must be hard due to the arch being heavy and hard to pull, but it’s good to know it’s actually very light. I couldn’t probably hit anything from the first tries either, but good for you that you managed to blow the balloon! 🙂

  17. I was able to try archery just last year at Gandiva 🙂 Super fun nya noh? But I must admit I was a bit nervous the first time I get to hold the gears. Hope to do it again. I want to try this place 🙂

  18. Thank you for posting this! I am looking for some activities that I would like to do for my birthday this coming weekend and I think I found one. And it’s just in Greenhills! I will ask about it and hopefully, my budget fits. 😀

  19. I would want to try this. As in. For once, i would want to do what Legolas does so easily. Ehehe. But seriously, more than the experience, I know there will be life lessons learned from archery and that I would want to find out.

  20. Wow! The Katniss Everdeen feels. Hehe! Archery has always been costly (for me) but I guess it’s worth the experience. I would want to try this if there’s a chance to do so. 🙂

  21. I love this! Ive been wanting to try this. I was into target shooting with my Dad before and it was fun. But this is something i am really interested to learn. I was just wondering, do they have introductory class/ session like one time trial class? The place is too far from me. I hope there’s an archery facility here in the South..

  22. Wow, it looks like SO MUCH FUN! 🙂 Thanks for sharing. I will definitely look up where I can learn it here in Sweden. I actually think that it might be something I’d be good at.
