“Never be afraid to try something new, because life gets boring when you stay within the limits of what you already know.”
The first time I tried Archery was around 10+ years ago during my Year 6 primary school Camp! I don’t remember much about the techniques involved but I remember it was a lot of fun! So when I found out that there was an archery place in Manila I just had to book a class! Luckily, The Archery Academy is partnered with FitAccessPH and I was able to book my class through them. Myself and my two friends, Hazel and Rocell, were excited the whole week for this, click on to read more about our Archery Academy Experience!
I booked through FitAccessPH! It was fast, super easy and hassle free! And what I love the most about FitAccessPH is that I’m not stuck with one gym or activity, I can pick and choose from their 30+ partner studios, like Archery, Yoga, Boxing, Dance classes and more! The Archery Academy is located on the 5th Floor of the Intrawest Center, #33 Annapolis St. Brgy. Greenhills, Brgy. San Juan, Metro Manila. I forgot to take a photo of the building itself but it’s a sort of green-ish color with stairs leading up. It’s a pretty steep climb but just keep walking up the stairs, turn left and you’ll see the signs in the photo above.
The place is cute, don’t you think? Hehe. I love the paintings/murals on the walls. Really makes the place look fun and exciting! It isn’t air-conditioned but it’s pretty well ventilated and there are fans too!
Myself and my two friends, Hazel and Rocell, booked a 7 to 8 pm class for Friday 26th August 2016; it was pretty gloomy rainy weather that day but we were still excited! We were meant to arrive earlier but we got lost on the way. Ended up going into another building, asked the Guard where it was located and he just looked at us funny and said there was no 5th floor in that building. Oops! We found it eventually hehe, thank you Google Maps! 😛
Before the class started we were ask to read and sign the waiver. Next, the head coach, Gio walked us through the basics. How to stand, how to properly hold the bow, how to put the arrows on the bows, what to do, what not to do, etc. etc. etc. This will take around 15 minutes.
These are the targets you can choose from! I chose No. 5 <3
These are the bows that we used. They were a lot lighter than I originally imagined. Thank goodness!
*queue The Hunger Games theme song music now*
It’s hard at first! My first few arrows were waaaaaaay off the targets. But as with all sports; practice, practice, practice!
I couldn’t get it smack down on the bulls-eye but I did pop the balloon so yayyyyy! Coach Gio, Japhet and Che are there to guide you as well so don’t worry about not getting it right the first time. They were a big help! 😀
Hazel (@hazzzieee) and Rocell (@rgtrrz) were really good! They got a few arrows in the bulls-eye, new sport guys? Hahaha!
After an hour of archery we were pretty beat. We didn’t realized it would be so tiring, it’s a lot of fun though!!! I highly recommend you give it a go! Bring your friends! Bring your families! You’ll have a great time! I guarantee 😀
- Wear covered shoes and comfortable clothes
- Stretch afterwards (We didn’t do this and our left arms were aching the next day, oops! Hehe!)
- Come 15 minutes before your class
- Be excited and have fun!!!
